Circa: 1918
The picture is signed Schaefer, no doubt "Pop" Schaefer, and dated May 28, 1918.
We came by this photo while going through some pictures left by my wife's mother. It seems her mother lived in Fleischmanns and went to school there in the early 1900's. Her father, Sam Lippman, bought the St. Regis Hotel and ran it in the late 20's and early 30's.
His wife, Bertha, was the cook. His son, Abe, was the bell hop, and I believe my mother-in-law, Faye, was a waitress. He may have owned the hotel with a cousin, Louis Sherry. The Karitsky's, who had a vegetable and fruit wholesale business in Fleischmanns, were also cousins. |

Does anyone know what kind of car that is? I wish Fleischmanns was like this now! |

Hey how great is this. I hope this part of the Skene dynasty goes on for ever. For anyone out there interested my father is Rex Phillip Skene. born in N.S.W. Australia in 1930. Thanks for a great find. Regards Colleen |
