Saturday September 21st at 2pm

James Litaker

Skene Memorial Library will host James Litaker, artist/painter on September 21 at 2PM. Through his art, James will share the inspirational brush-strokes that motivate his artwork and appreciation of art.

Litaker graduated from the School of Visual Arts, studied the Dutch Masters in Amsterdam, and brought his drawing talent and renaissance eye back to the sights and sounds of Harlem and Greenwich Village. Although still in love with the daily wonders and diversity of NYC James now resides and creates in Upstate N.Y.

Skene Catalog is Now Online

Skene Memorial Library

Skene Memorial Library
Catalog is Now Online

In response to the mandate by the State of New York that all public libraries be automated, Skene Memorial Library volunteers spent many hours over the past two and a half years entering Skene’s 8357 books, DVD’s and audio books into the data base of the Four County Library System.

All Skene’s Library’s collections have been digitally catalogued and bar coded, and are now included in the Four County Library On-Line Catalog (4CLS). Skene patrons can now borrow books, DVD’s and digital media from any of the 42 Four County Library facilities that are included in the on-line catalog. Downloadable e-books and audio books are accessed directly through the 4CLS website and books and CD’s reserved from other libraries are delivered to Skene for pickup on Wednesdays and Fridays.

Here is the web link for the on-line catalog or click on the icon:
https://fcls.ent.sirsi.net/client/en_US/fcls

To use the on-line system and to borrow books from Skene Library shelves, you will now need a 4CLS bar-coded library card with its new number. If you don’t already have one, stop by the library to get one.

New 4CLS Library Card

In order to expand our services we continue to need help from our patrons with DONATIONS – to pay for the barcoding materials and printers, as well as the ongoing cost of participating in the 4CLS online system.

Please contact Linda Rodgers our Librarian at 845-254-4581 or come by.

Donations Welcome

For the first time in many years, Skene Library ended its fiscal year (on May 31) in the red. This is due to the state-mandated fully-automated system; patrons from all 42 libraries in our Four County Library System now have access to our collections; and patrons at Skene have access to the entire system as well. But the costs for a small library like ours are very steep–around $4000 per year. And our winter fund-raiser did not succeed as hoped. So Skene will be attempting another fund-raiser this summer. If you can, please mail a donation to Skene Library, PO Box 189, Fleischmanns NY 12430. Or better yet, drop it off when you next come get a book. come in to use our new computers, or attend a program!

We encourage donations from individuals, no matter what amount. With your help, we can continue to obtain the best in books and audio and DVD materials. We thank all those who have donated books and other items for our collections and sales, and eagerly encourage such donations.
